I started working with wood at a young age, as my Grandparents on both sides and father had all the necessary tools and knowledge about woodworking for me to become comfortable in working with wood. My Mom also as early as I can remember was bringing home antiques and of course most of them needed repair. With out knowing it at the time I was not only learning how to repair wood furniture but also was paying attention to the construction of older furniture, joinery and finish used. For long lasting furniture I realized proper joints, finish and proportion is essential to a great piece.
Losing my job as a crane operator forced me a few years back to begin making a business out of something I grew up around. With lots of help from my family I have been able to share and sell my unique wood items.
It's called Brad's Backcountry Woodshop because my name is Brad and I lived in the middle of nowhere! Ever heard of Athol, Idaho? Nope. That's where I started my business . I had nothing to do but keep the moose from trampling the garden and create artistic works in wood, my medium of choice.
I now live in the mountains of Southern California where I still create small to large items and really the only things that have changed are that I don't live in the middle of nowhere and instead of dealing with moose, I keep the bobcats from eating my pet geese. Still the same great craftsmanship
